Total knee replacement

What it is

Models of a knee with different stages of arthritis and what a knee replacecment looks like

Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap.

There are many options available to treat knee arthritis when non surgical management options no longer give relief of pain or other symptoms of arthritis. Total knee replacement (TKR) is where the whole knee is resurfaced and is the most commonly recommended treatment. However for certain conditions, half or 'uni' knee replacements can be recommended.

Robotic assisted knee replacement

Robotic assisted total knee replacement is a surgical procedure that combines the use of robotic technology and the expertise of a surgeon to replace a damaged knee joint with an artificial implant.

It is a less invasive approach that offers enhanced precision, accuracy, and personalised planning compared to traditional knee replacement surgery.

Functional knee alignment

Everybody's knees are different. This modern surgical knee replacement technique aims to restore your natural knee balance by taking into account each individuals natural joint line alignment and movement kinematics.
